I have always loved Bob Dylan's song "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."
The song was written for the soundtrack of the 1973 film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Dylan biographer Clinton Heylin describes the song as "an exercise in splendid simplicity."
Just 2:32 seconds long.
A song about death and dying.
And yet just about as life affirming as it gets.
Imagine having written this song. Imagine having recorded this beautiful version of it.
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's gettin' dark, too dark to see
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh
