45: In the Mood for Love

As noted on Wikipedia, In the Mood for Love (2000) is a Hong Kong romantic drama film written, produced, and directed by Wong Kar-wai. It tells the story of a man (played by Tony Leung) and a woman (Maggie Cheung) whose spouses have an affair together and who slowly develop feelings for each other.

I finally got around to seeing this modern classic this past summer. As it happens, one of my favorite scenes is the deleted scene in which Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung have some fun together and dance! In the actual movie, their respective character's feelings for one another are never expressed in this way, so it's great to see them being joyful together, even outside the final movie cut. Check it out:

As I write, it is dark and stormy outside - weather reminiscent of one the truly great scenes in the movie:

The soundtrack for this film is so stunning. Love it. And even though this is a story of unconsummated love between the two main characters, watching the film is a true love affair. Make a date to see it - or see it again. You will be glad you did.
