145: Lake Street Dive - "Rich Girl"

Lake Street Dive is one of my favorite bands. Formed in 2004 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the band's founding members are Rachael Price, Mike "McDuck" Olson, Bridget Kearney, and Mike Calabrese. The founding four are featured on this live recording in a shack in Portland, Oregon in 2013 of Hall & Oates' classic "Rich Girl."

No matter how many times I watch + listen to this performance it gives me goosebumps. Rachael Price has the chops.

Bridget more than holds her own on the bass.

McDuck delivers on trumpet.

And what's not to like about Calabrese on that minimal drum setup?

Let's not leave out that hip cat audience of ten or so souls on the doorstep.

Over 5 million views at this time on YouTube. Worth every one. I saw Lake Street Dive live at Road Runner in Boston in the summer of 2022. Great show. Great band. Really and truly, Rachael Price is richer than rich. And you will be, too, when you join me in hitting the play button below. Turn it up!

"Rich Girl"

You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway You can rely on the old man's money You can rely on the old man's money It's a bitch girl but it's gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway Say money but it won't get you too far Get you too far Don't you know, don't you know That it's wrong to take what is given you So far gone, on your own You can get along if you try to be strong But you'll never be strong 'cause You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway You can rely on the old man's money You can rely on the old man's money It's a bitch girl and it's gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway Say money but it won't get you too far Get you too far High and dry, out of the rain It's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain And don't you know that a love can't grow 'Cause there's too much to give, 'cause you'd rather live For the thrill of it all, oh You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway You can rely on the old man's money You can rely on the old man's money It's a bitch girl and it's gone too far 'Cause you know it don't matter anyway Say money but it won't get you too far Say money but it won't get you too far Say money but it won't get you too far Get you too far And you say You can rely on the old man's money You can rely on the old man's money You're a rich girl, a rich girl Oh, you're a rich, rich girl yeah Say money but it won't get you too far Oh, get ya too far
